Fiat unveils 100bhp hot Panda

The Paris show stars keep on coming: this is Fiat's latest 'warm hatchback', the Panda 100 HP.Fitted with a tweaked version of the Grande Punto's 1.4-litre engine, the 100 HP has precisely that amount of grunt on tap at 6000rpm, and 96lb ft of torque at 4250rpm. That transfers into a 0-60mph time of 9.5sec and a top speed of 115mph. Fiat claims around 43mpg on a combined cycle, too, so the 100 HP doesn't completely ditch the Panda's reputation for frugality.

The 100 HP features a six-speed gearbox, and the driver can use a dashboard switch to alter the steering weight and throttle response when a deserted B-road presents itself.

Fiat also says it will reveal a 'Pandemonio' pack at the car's launch, adding styling details like chrome side stickers, red brake calipers, floor mats and 15in alloys to the regular model.

The 100 HP is available in only five colours - red, black, white, blue and silver. Its name also seems to confirm that Fiat is reserving the Abarth badge for its hottest products only.
