BMW will begin rental trials of a new 6.0-litre V12 dual fuel gasoline-hydrogen powered version of the 7-series from early next year.The new car, dubbed Hydrogen 7 and set for a world debut at the Los Angeles motor show in late November, will be available to selected customers in North America, Europe and Japan at a price comparable to today’s 760iL with additional servicing costs, according to officials from the German car maker.
With volumes limited to around 100 cars, the Hydrogen 7 is powered by a reworked version of BMW’s existing 6.0-litre V12 engine producing 260bhp and 390Nm of torque. That’s a significant 185bhp and 210Nm down on the gasoline powered 760iL, but enough claims BMW’s for 0-62mph acceleration in 9.5sec and a 143mph top speed.
The cruising range is put at 125 miles in hydrogen mode, with a further 300 miles in gasoline guise.
