Last week we brought you the toy, today we have the real deal. This is the new Citroen C4 Picasso MPV, which makes its debut at the Paris motor show next month.
The good news is that the real car looks every bit as good as the model sold on eBay last week, with a huge panoramic windscreen that stretches back into the cabin and a much more upmarket feel than the old Xsara Picasso (which will continue to be sold as a budget model).
Along with a move upmarket, the biggest change over the old car is that the C4 is a seven-seater, making it a rival for the Vauxhall Zafira and Ford S-Max. Citroen says that middle-row space is class-leading, while middle-row seats that fold and slide forward at the touch of a button make access to the third row easy. All five rear seats fold into the floor.
Up front, the C4’s familiar fixed-hub steering wheel is mated with an all-new dash with a central pod housing the instruments and optional sat-nav, and plenty of storage including a refrigerated central glovebox. On versions equipped with Citroen’s new six-speed electronic gearbox, the gearshift is mounted on the steering column; manual versions make do with a dash-mounted lever. There are individual controls for the air-con system for driver and front passenger on the far ends of the dashboard, and on more expensive models two separate controls for the rear.
The engine line-up consists of a 143bhp 2.0 petrol and 110bhp 1.6 or 138bhp 2.0 HDi diesels. Prices and exact specifications have yet to be confirmed, but expect the C4 Picasso to start at around £16,500.
