New Marcos GTC: the reinvented TSO

A new version of Marcos' 190mph TSO coupé, called the GTC, is to be unveiled in London next week. It incorporates nearly 150 improvements derived from a year of extensive testing and customer feedback.

Examples will start flowing immediately to customers at just under £50,000. A targa-top version is due to follow very soon, according to Marcos owner Tony Stelliga.

Powered by a 450bhp version of the Chevy Corvette's 6.0-litre V8, the GTC has special exhausts, bespoke engine management, induction tweaks and a uniquely engineered exhaust note.

It weighs only 1125kg at the kerb and so delivers spectacular performance: 0-60mph in 4.1sec, 0-100mph in 8.5sec, 0-100-0 in 13.2sec and 50 to 70mph in just 2.1sec.

Against last year's GT2 the GTC is roomier, has better visibility and has a stiffer yet lighter body. Marcos believes the new model can deliver class-beating standards of quality by means of a new, labour-efficient production system.

The tubular chassis is precision-built at Prodrive (the site of Marcos' own HQ) and then built into a rolling chassis before the body is fitted. The shell itself is a dual-gemcoat, foam-core GRP structure which needs very little paint shop preparation and is precision-aligned to the chassis.

Production is currently at one car a week, but should reach two cars towards the end of the year. Marcos holds about four months' worth of back orders, and aims to continue at that rate.
