The other engine in the i40 estate's range is a 2.0-litre petrol unit that's available from £23,795 and is only available in top-spec Premium trim.

Mid-range Style trim adds a touch-screen sat-nav, cruise control, dual-zone climate control and front and rear parking sensors, while top-spec Premium trim adds leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry and the option of Lane Departure Warning and Smart Parking Assist, heated leather steering wheel and ventilated front seats.

Hyundai is pitching the i40 as an alternative for company car drivers, with a low insurance rating of Group 12E and the lowest BIK cost in class. A saloon mode will follow at the end of the year.
