Peugeot has announced a new special edition RCZ, the Asphalt.

Features of the Asphalt include matt-black paint, 19-inch black and silver alloys, black leather interior and Asphalt logos on both the interior and exterior.

Powering the Asphalt will be Peugeot's existing 1.6-ltre THP engine developing 197bhp and 188lb/ft of torque with an overboost system adding an extra 15lb/ft of torque. The sprint to 60 will take 7.6sec.

Only 500 examples will be released although prices and availability are yet to be confirmed by Peugeot.

Peugeot has already produced a special edition of its RCZ of which only 200 were made. It featured pearlescent white paint, matt black 19-inch alloy wheels and carbonfibre roof. Power came from a 154bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine. With a price tag of £31,585, expect a similar figure for the Asphalt.

For c. £35,000 you could buy a new Porsche Boxster with a 2.9 litre, proper engine/transmission etc, for c. £30,000 a BMW Z4 with 2.5 engine for c £30,500 a Nissan 370Z with 3.7 engine. All rear wheel drive. (Not to mention VW Scirocco, Audi TT.)

Where's the sense? Choose one of the above or a French Peugeot 308 1.6 fwd with a not very good looking faux VW Karmann Ghia back end unsuccessfully grafted on!

...And look like a pleb in all the cars mentioned bar the 370 and Scirocco!!

Matt black is this years white apparently. Who knows what delights will be sprung on us next year!

In relation to the car - I have seen a couple of these and they are a bit different from the norm which is quite refreshing. I was following one on the M6 toll and I thought it looked definitely French but elegant and quite classy and most of all, not a TT!

I don't think we're seeing too many yet as they haven't been out all that long. I don't if anyone can help enlighten but from the face of it, it looks like orders have been placed but it's taken a little/fair while to get them manufactured and delivered?
