First spy pics of facelifted XF show XJ-inspired styling changes; estate model to join the range

Jaguar’s facelifted XF saloon has been spied for the first time ahead of its launch in 2012.

Jaguar’s mid-life refresh for its BMW 5-series rival includes XJ-inspired styling changes; the cladding on the test car hides a mildly re-engineered front end with new headlamps and a larger grille.

Changes to the rear, including a new light design and bumper, are also expected, as are improvements to the XF’s interior.

A range of new engines is expected to appear in the updated car: a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder Ford/PSA diesel unit (currently used by Land Rover) is heavily tipped to join the range to power a new entry-level model.

Power from this engine in the XF will be around 200bhp. Jaguar will introduce ZF’s eight-speed automatic gearbox to the range at the same time.

The facelifted saloon’s launch is expected to coincide with the debut of a fastback, sporting estate version of the XF.

Expect elegant styling incorporating a shade more practicality to be the defining features in this model, rather than a Volvo-style cavernous load area.

For the same reason BMW does a 2 door coupe version of it's 3- cos it's easy and it would appeal to more buyers. It would surely come to market a lot quicker than a new model too. They should still develop a new XE but a 2 door XF would help out in the meantime.

XF Competes with 5 Series not the 3-series & the Current (just ending) 6-Series did'nt exactly fly out of the showrooms. XK Competes with 6-Series. XE Will be here sooner than you think.....

XF Coupe would just steal sales from the Saloon.....

If the Jaguar XF gets the C-XF nose then it will look truly awesome. I just wish they would lose the door handles for something less visible a la concept.
