G25 is Infiniti's new entry-level model

Infiniti added a new entry-level G25 saloon to its range at Pebble Beach – although the model is unlikely to be launched in the UK.

The Infiniti G25 is expected to cost from $30,950 (£19,700) in the US, $2,300 (£1480) less than the current G37 saloon.

Power comes from Nissan's 2.5-litre V6 engine, producing 218bhp and 187lb ft of torque. The G25 has a seven-speed automatic gearbox, which sends power to the rear wheels, while four-wheel drive is an optional extra.

The G25 will be offered in three trim levels: G25 Sedan, G25 Sedan Journey and G25x Sedan AWD.

The G25 will come with leather seats, an eight-way adjustable driver's seat and a four-way adjustable front passenger's seat. Automatic Temperature Control, a six-speaker audio system with XM Satellite Radio, 17-inch alloys, xenon headlamps, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and Traction Control System (TCS) are also offered.

The Journey model comes with a reversing camera, heated front seats, heated wing mirrors, automatic headlights and Dual Zone Automatic Temperature Control.

Ben Poore, Infiniti's vice president, said, “With the new G25 Sedan, we're broadening the appeal of the G line with a model designed to provide an additional choice for buyers looking for a true luxury sedan, but who might not need the higher levels of performance provided by our larger engine-equipped G37 models.”

Re: Infiniti launches G25 saloon

It'll probably sell well to women, who generally select the smaller of available engine options. The paltry 1 mpg gain in fuel economy is a poor trade-off for the serious decline in hp (218 versus 318 in the 3.7 L). For my money, I'd write a slightly larger check and get me a 328i instead.
