Sporty version of the 308 comes to France - but it's more likely to be badged GT here

Peugeot has launched a GTI version of the 308 - but the model won't be coming to the UK.

The Peugeot 308 GTI will only be available in France where the GTI badge doesn't hold the same prestige as in the UK. Peugeot UK has been offered the model, but if it arrives here it would be more likely to badged as a GT.

The GTI receives a styling upgrade over the standard 308 along with the the 197bhp 1.6 THP engine from the Peugeot RCZ. It sends power to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

The 308 GTI can get from 0-62mph in 7.7sec. It s CO2 emissions are rated at 159g/km, while the combined fuel economy is 41mpg.

A revised suspension systems lowers the car by 10mm; styling upgrades include 18-inch alloy wheels, new front and rear spoilers, GTI badging and twin chrome exhaust tips. Inside, there's an aluminium gear knob and a leather sports steering wheel.

Thanks that's very insightful. Though you would agree it were Volkswagen who made their own GTi badge the mainstream symbol that is widely recognised today.

"GTI", old guy says it only survives because VW were the origin of the GTI,don't you think the others just copied it and jumped on the gravy train, and anyway their car that was a legend too many a chav was the 205 GTI which wasn't exactly a friendly car on the limit was it?
