Vauxhall Astra v Ford Focus v VW Golf v Kia Cee'd v Mazda 3

This week's Autocar magazine pits the new Vauxhall Astra against its chief rivals, the Ford Focus, the VW Golf, Kia Cee'd and Mazda 3.

Using a price point of around £20,000, the five small family cars are pitted against each other on a route that heads out of London on the M3 and M27 motorways, before taking in a twisting, scenic route on the Hampshire/Dorset border.

I gave up reading Autoexpress many years ago when i worked out their scoops never ever materialise. Take sporty Fords for example. Every other week another scoop Fiesta RS, Focus 4WD RS, new Capri RS!, etc etc. All total nonsense dreamed up out of thin air.

Check out Autoexpress, they did a group test split into 6 diff areas and overall the Golf came 1st followed by the Mazda 3, the price of the Astra went against it and it had the least powerfull diesel engine, the Focus came last, again price and showing it's age but still good for handling and practicality.
