Jackie Kennedy and Jack Brabham inspired the two new Frankfurt concepts

Autocar can reveal more details on the Mini Roadster and Mini Coupe concepts, which have been launched at the Frankfurt motor show today.

Reports that the trim of the Mini Roadster showed the influence of Jackie Kennedy turned out to be well founded when the car’s designer Gert Hildebrand confirmed the car was codenamed Jackie K in its development.

The Mini Coupe also received influence from another well known star. The Coupe is in distinctive blue and gold paint, the colours of the overalls Jack Brabham used to where when he raced.

The Coupe was given the codename Blackjack when it was in development.

Both cars’ steeply sloping windscreens are unlikely to make the production versions due to the large costs involved. However, the Coupe and Roadster production models should be very similar to their concepts.

The Mini Roadster could have even been badged as a Triumph, BMW has admitted. It owns the name to the now defunct brand and the car bares strong resemblances to the Triumph Spitfire.

Re: Mini concepts inspired by stars

I'm squinting very hard but I can't see much resemblence between that and a Spitfire, well unless you narrow it to 'hasn't got a roof' and 'has got round(ish) headlights'
