Supercar replacement will be less extreme than the original

The next-generation Honda NSX is unlikely to match the original model in terms on price, power and performance, according to a senior Honda official.

Geneva update: Honda NSX prices set to start for £130,000 in the UK

The on-off supercar replacement was officially cancelled late last year but new details have emerged from Acura’s (Honda’s North American name) senior manager of product development, John Watts.

Watts claimed the NSX project was not dead, but had just been put on hold, and said the concept would be scaled down when it remerged. Watts described the NSX as “too high a halo” for Honda, claiming that the NSX’s proposition and price were too high for a Honda product.

Watts said, “For it [the next NSX] to be fully effective, it couldn’t be too far removed [from other Honda products] in terms of price."

His comments hint that the next NSX is unlikely to use the same V6 engine as seen in the original, and that its platform is likely to be sourced from within the Honda group.
