We’ve already driven the latest 911 Carrera, complete with its new direct-injection engines, and now Porsche has revealed the refreshed Porsche 911 Targa.
As with all of the recently facelifted 997 models, the big news is under the bonnet. The new Targa gets the same more powerful, more efficient direct-injection engines as its standard coupe sibling. The 911 Targa 4 features a 345bhp 3.6-litre unit and the Targa 4S gets the 385bhp, 3.8-litre motor.
In line with the previous model, the new Targa is only available with four-wheel drive, though a new traction management system (PTM), based on the system in the 911 Turbo, allows up to 100 per cent of the car’s power to be delivered to the rear wheels.
Porsche’s new double-clutch PDK gearbox is another significant new addition to the facelifted Targa.
As ever, the Targa’s defining characteristic is the segmented glass roof, which slides back beneath the tailgate in just seven seconds. A new, electrically controlled sunblind is the only new feature of the glass roof.
As with the facelifted 911 coupe, the Targa gets a 44mm wider rear end, and daytime LED running lights as the only distinguishing styling cues.
The new Porsche 911 Targa goes on sale on 25 October. Prices start at £72,980 for the Targa 4 and £80,270 for the 4S.
