The Hyundai Veloster Turbo marks the first application of the company's new 1.6-litre T-GDI engine

The Hyundai Veloster Turbo has been unveiled at today's Geneva motor show. The model sees the company’s first application of its new 1.6-litre T-GDI engine.

In European specification, the 1.6-litre high compression engine, which also features a twin-scroll turbocharger, delivers 183bhp and 199lb ft of torque. The Turbo records a 0-62mph time of 8.4secs, against the naturally aspirated model’s 9.7secs. No details on fuel consumption or CO2 emissions are available.

Hyundai has equipped the Veloster Turbo with a quicker steering rack with revised calibration. The front and rear suspension setup has been tuned to “enhance driver enjoyment”. A larger diameter exhaust has been fitted to provide what Hyundai claims is a “more robust sound”.

A six-speed manual transmission will be fitted as standard. The Hyundai-developed unit has a wider gear ratio spread to accommodate the additional torque output.

The Veloster Turbo has new front and rear bumpers, a new rear spoiler and grille, new 18-inch alloy wheels with chrome inserts, projection headlights with LED daytime running lights, and unique LED taillights.

Geneva marks the first time the Veloster Turbo has been seen in Europe. The north American-specification model received its world debut at the Detroit motor show in January.

Still don't like the looks of this thing. A "coupe" should be pretty, to me this is just a 5 door hatchback with a door welded up on one side.

We need the Genesis Coupe with a sensible engine, 200BHP Turbo would sell I'm sure.

Re: Geneva 2012: Hyundai Veloster Turbo

we have been waiting ages for a Hyundai with some appeal. The wait goes on.......

Surely the Korean motor industry can come up with something which is quick and has some driver appeal?

I hope Autocar got the 0-60 time wrong, if not what is all that power for? You might as well buy the regular 1.6, its not much slower!
