The new Swift Sport will be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show and uses a 134bhp, 1.6-litre unit

This is the Suzuki Swift Sport, which has been revealed the Frankfurt motor show, with an expected on-sale date early next year.

It is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine linked to a six-speed manual gearbox, and produces 134bhp at 4400rpm and 118lb ft of torque.

On the combined cycle, Suzuki claims the new Swift Sport will achieve 44.1mpg, whilst emitting 147g/km Co2. These figures better the previous car's 39.8mpg and 165g/km Co2, helped by the extra forward gear.

In a statement Suzuki revealed the Sport “offers superior cornering stability and brisker, more responsive handling, thanks to struts with internal rebound springs and an exclusive rear-suspension design.”

The Sport's exclusively tuned chassis adds "greater toe and camber rigidity for the torsion beam, greater lateral rigidity in the torsion-beam bushings, and larger rear wheel bearings," which "enhance stability at the rear under hard cornering."

"Increased spring rates for the front and rear coil springs and added rebound springs in the front struts significantly contribute to stability by providing greater roll stiffness," Suzuki added.

Styling changes include a larger front grille and more aggressive bodywork and 17-inch alloys, which are 1kg lighter at each corner than its predecessor and a revised exhaust system "yields a sportier note."

Suzuki promises “a cabin (that) combines essential sportiness with a high-quality look and feel, plus design features that heighten excitement about the driving experience.” The newly designed sport seats come in an "exclusive fabric" together with a "five-dial meter cluster that combines easy legibility with an uncluttered look."

The new Swift Sport is 3890mm long, 1695mm wide and 1510mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2430mmThe bodywork changes mean it is 40mm longer than the standard Swift, but it is the same width and height as the standard car.
