Zafira Tourer Concept has launched at the Geneva motor show

This grainy hologram is the first image of the new Vauxhall Zafira Tourer Concept that has made its debut debut at the Geneva motor show.

Vauxhall’s sister firm Opel issued the image this morning that shows the firm’s design chief Mark Adams holding an iPad that the Zafira hologram comes out of.

The cropped version of the image displayed here reveals the new Zafira will get front-end styling inspired by the Ampera, as well as the firm’s ‘blade’ surfacing on the flanks.

The concept is likely to put a strong emphasis on the car’s interior, with Adams saying: “We’ve had the idea to carry over the concept of a lounge into a car. A lounge is a place where one can recuperate.”

Instead of directly replacing the current Zafira, the new Zafira for Geneva will be a bigger, more sophisticated model designed to compete with the Ford Galaxy and S-Max. Today’s Zafira will be given a thorough facelift and remain on sale in its current format.

The new car will be based on GM’s Delta II platform and will be a sister car to more utilitarian Chevrolet Orlando. But the new Zafira will also be pushed upmarket with a higher price tag and a premium feel as Vauxhall looks to distance itself from Chevrolet’s offerings.

Neither Vauxhall or Opel has revealed any more details of the new Zafira, which will be revealed in full in the week before the Geneva show.
