Aria crossover will cost from £12,000 in India

This is the Tata Aria crossover, unveiled today at the Delhi motor show.

Built on an all-new platform, codenamed X2, the Aria will be Tata’s most expensive model and luxurious model in India when it goes on sale later this year.

Standard features include six airbags, stability control, a surround sound system, climate control, GPS and cruise control. The asking price will reflect this, with reports suggesting it will cost from £12,000.

The Aria is powered by a 137bhp 2.2-litre diesel engine with 236lb ft of torque. It is available with four-wheel drive as an option.

Tata says it combines the space of an MPV with the off-road ability of an SUV, and says it has put the car through an extensive test process, including in Europe. Despite this, it says it has no immediate plans to put the car on sale outside of India.

The Aria was originally unveiled as a concept car of the same name at the Geneva motor show in 2005.

Bloody ugly. The problem with all these Indian and Chinese car companies is that they're run by businessmen, not engineers or designers.
