Next-gen Ford Focus could be revealed at Detroit show

The next Ford Focus is making its global debut at the Detroit motor show in January, it has been reported. As with the Fiesta, which recently arrived stateside, the US Focus will be almost the same as the European models.

As well as a four-door saloon, America will be getting a five-door hatch, reflecting a change in tastes in America. The US Focuses are understood to be constructed in two assembly plants in Michigan and sales are due to start in 12 months, around the same time as Europe.

Recently a development mule for the next-generation Ford Focus was spotted testing. Although much of the car is the current Focus, development work on this mule is focusing on the front end, and particularly the disguised front bumper and grille, both of which are new parts.

It is believed that this shows a possible design direction for the new car, and that the engineers are assessing under-bonnet cooling as a result of a new engine position and front-end layout.

The overall styling direction for the next Focus will be taken from the Ford Iosis Max concept car, which was unveiled in Geneva this year as a preview for both the next C-Max and Focus.
