The petrol engine has 115lb ft of torque, and replaces the 105bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine previously found in Fiat's mini-SUV.

The two-wheel-drive Sedici now has a top speed of 115mph and hits 0-62mph in 10.7sec, while averaging 45.6mpg (the 4x4 has a top speed of 109mph, hits 62mph in 11.5sec and averages 43.5mpg). Emissions are not specified, but Fiat says they are "about 10 per cent" lower than before.

The diesel engine, which has 236lb ft of torque, replaces the 1.9-litre Multijet unit. It emits 129g/km of CO2 in the two-wheel-drive version of the Sedici, down 17 per cent on before, and averages 57.7mpg. In the 4x4 Sedici it emits 143g/km and averages 51.4mpg.

The diesel version is also faster than before; the two-wheel-drive Sedici has a top speed of 118mph and hits 0-62mph in 10.5sec, while the 4x4 has a top speed of 112mph and takes 11.2sec to get to 62mph.

The Sedici will also receive a minor facelift, including a new, bullbar-styled front bumper and new metallic trim around the headlights.

Pictures, prices and on-sale dates haven't been released.
