All-electric city car is based on the Mitsubishi i-MiEV; Frankfurt unveiling next week

Peugeot has launched its all-electric iOn city car, which is based on the Mitsubishi i-MiEV.

The car forms part of a deal announced last week between the two firms that outlined plans for a Peugeot and Citroen version of the all-electric i-MiEV.

The Peugeot iOn uses lithium-ion batteries which can be recharged to 80 per cent capacity using a 220V socket. A full charge takes around six hours.

The four-door, four-seat iOn will develop 64bhp and 133lb ft of torque. It has a claimed range of 81 miles and a top speed of 81mph.

Production is likely to begin on the car next October and it will be available for commercial and fleet sales from the end of 2010. The car will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show next week.

Citroen has yet to release any details on its version of the i-MiEV.

Re: Peugeot iOn launched

I dont think i will have to try to hard to imagine the Citroen version! Just repalce the lion with their Chevrons.

While these dont excite me one bit, i guess they are a huge leap forward from the G-Wiz etc
