Drag racer to take part in FIA European Finals at Santa Pod

A drag racer powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine taken from the Nissan 350Z will be competing at the FIA European Finals at Santa Pod.

Project Zed will be the only Japanese engined car competing against the more common American V8-powered drag racers. The team has tuned the 350Z’s engine to around 1900bhp.

It can get from 0-60mph in just 1.2secs and 0-168mph can be reached in 4.1secs.

John Bradshaw, the car’s owner and driver, said: “It’s incredible to finally have the car ready to test now and we are all very excited by its potential. It really is a car that is capable of setting records around the world and just shows what a Nissan engine is capable of producing.”

The team has already set records in its other car, a 1997 Nissan Skyline RWD GTST. The rear-wheel drive car produces more than 1150bhp and holds the record for the fastest Japanese car in Europe in 2008, a record it still holds today.

The car also holds the record for the fastest quarter of a mile achieved by a Nissan Skyline, with a time of 7.68 seconds at 177mph.

The FIA European Finals take place at Santa Pod between 10-13 September.
