Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. executives are reportedly set to meet with GM officials this week to discuss its bid for Opel/Vauxhall, should the deal with Magna fall through.

According to the Bloomberg news agency, Beijing Auto executives are travelling to GM’s Zurich European headquarters to meet with GM as the Chinese firm hasn’t given up hopes of buying Opel.

German Economy Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg said yesterday that the government will listen to any other bids for Opel, but “priority” should be given to Magna.

Fiat is also believed to still be interested in Opel. Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi told reporters last week that Fiat’s offer for Opel was “still on the table” after a meeting with Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne.
