The Volvo V70 wagon is now available with the automaker's sportier R-Design package

Volvo is giving its V70 estate more attitude with this R-Design styling package. First seen on the C30 R-Design, the profiles combine sporty visual additions and a tweaked chassis for sharper driving experience.Volvo’s engineers have given the big wagon stiffer anti-roll bars and bushes, stiffened suspension and lowered ride height."The big challenge with this project and the R-Design chassis was to combine crisp driving pleasure with Volvo's renowned secure properties in poor road conditions, such as heavy rain or snow. I'm convinced we've found exactly the right balance," said Ekkehard Schwartz, Volvo’s vice-president (chassis and vehicle dynamics). In styling terms the R-Design package for the V70 features sporty design elements such as stainless-steel sill inserts, blue-lit instrumentation and a specially designed aluminium centre console. The steering wheel and seats are swathed in black leather and offer greater stability and lateral support compared to the standard versions. The R-Design V70 also gets 18-inch alloys as standard, unique badging on the silver matt-finish grille, a colour-coordinated boot spoiler and chrome exhaust pipes.Prices start at £26,745 for the V70 2.0-litre petrol R-Design, rising to £37,235 for the T6 AWD Geartronic variant. The Volvo XC90 SUV also gets the latest R-Design treatment, which you can read about here at autocar.co.uk.
