Sleek 2+2 sports coupe concept could be a £20k rear-wheel drive Audi TT rival

Never mind the Sedona – this is our first glimpse of Kia’s new sports coupe concept, which could rival the Audi TT.

The sports coupe concept is a 2+2 that will be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show on 11 September. Styled by design boss Peter Schreyer, it follows on from the sleek ex_cee’d cabriolet concept shown at Geneva in March.

“I’m sure Kia will surprise the entire automotive world when people see our new sports coupe concept in the metal,” said Schreyer.

Details remain scarce, but Schreyer is known to want Kia design to be “more emotional” – meaning that he wants people to buy Kias for their svelte looks, not just their sensible pricing and seven-year warranties.

Schreyer would like the coupe to be rear-wheel drive, possibly using Hyundai’s new rear-drive architecture.

“Rear drive would make it easier to get great proportions to the design,” said Schreyer, “but I wouldn’t want to make an expensive car. Any coupe should cost around £20,000.”
