Lotus has finally unveiled its much-anticipated track day car, the 2-Eleven.
To be shown at the Geneva motor show next week, the Exige-based 2-Eleven promises the typical Lotus qualities of super-sharp handling and super-light weight.
The 2-Eleven tips the scales at 670kg, and packs 252bhp from its supercharged engine. Lotus claims that gives it the power-to-weight ratio of a 1960s Formula One car.
While the 2-Eleven is based on the Exige S, and uses the same close-ratio six-speed gearbox and 1.8-litre supercharged engine, it's had the wick turned right up.
Power is 252bhp at a screaming 8000rpm, while torque is 179lb ft at 7000rpm. There are also racing brakes (AP at the front and Brembo at the rear), and five-spoke lightweight alloys shod with Yokohama tyres.
The bodywork is bolted on for easier changes, and the chassis is an adaptation of the Exige's, with epoxy bonded aluminium alloy extrusions and high sides for added protection. An FIA-compliant six-point rollover structure with integral harness mounts is standard.
The first 2-Elevens will roll out of the Hethel factory in April, and will be available only in Launch Edition specification - a garish three-way Lotus Sport colour scheme.
The Launch Edition comes in two versions. There's a self-explanatory Road Going Version, which has front and rear lights, an exhaust catalyst, rear wing and other items to achieve compliance with UK requirements, and a Track Only Version.
The Track version has an enhanced aerodynamics package including high downforce carbonfibre rear wing, high downforce front splitter, brake lights and rear indicators and FIA approved driver's race seat.
The Track car will sell for £39,995 - £5100 more than the supercharged but less powerful Exige S - and the road-legal version for £41,095. Outside the UK, only the track version will be offered.
