  • Schuey 'negotiating with Merc F1'

    Nov 20, 2009 4:58 PM

Michael Schumacher is negotiating with the Mercedes Grand Prix team, according to the BBC.

BBC F1 pundit and former team owner Eddie Jordan says Mercedes wants the seven-time champion as its lead driver after taking over title-winning Brawn.

"The possibility is being actively pursued and I believe it is going to happen," Jordan told the BBC.

"It started with a meeting between Michael, Ross Brawn and Daimler chief executive officer Dieter Zetsche at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.Read the full article

While Luca di Montezemolo is still pushing for a third car at Ferrari, Schumacher himself has been typically cryptic in a way that suggests that the speculation is correct.

He'll be 41, but with the fitness of the average 25-year-old racer, and should the neck injury have properly recovered, he must return. If he does, what a year it will be.

If Eddie Jordan is saying it, probably best taken with a pinch of salt. :o)

I dont have much hope of this happening.

It is not in Ferraris interest to release schumacher.

More like half of Guérande. Or Maldon.

So Button wasn't mad to partner Hamilton after all. Look at the alternative.

He's had his era, I haven't missed him.

I don't want to see him back, I think he'll struggle to beat Fernando, Lewis, Sebastian and even Felipe and Jenson.

In his heyday he only had to beat one or two drivers, and his teamate wasn't allowed to beat him.

Now, as listed above, there are four or five top class drivers in good cars, it's not the same. Its better.

If he does come back they'll need to clamp down on his driving standards, there have been very few drivers driven off the road since he retired and the parking at Monaco has been better too!

I wonder if Alan Jones has had a word with Frank for 2011?

I think Mercedes told Jenson he wasn't their first choice and then they'll want Vettel in 2011.

One can only imagine the season we're going to have next year if this comes to fruition!

Could not agree more. Eddie just can't help himself at playing the vainglorious big shot who knows everyone and everything.

Fora guy who won 91 GPs and 7 world titles, it is really pathetic to say "in his heyday he only had to beat one or two drivers, and his teamate wasn't allowed to beat him". Ask Eddie Irvine or Martin Brundle or Johnny Herbert if they weren't allowed to beat him. They weren't simply because they were 2 seconds slower. Every single lap. Schumacher has been one of the greater drivers, if not the greatest. Ok, he's 41, and it would be really good fun to see him back in a cockpit. He has nothing to prove, he already his (by far) the most successful Formula1 driver. His comeback would only add some spice to current F1, which in my opinion looks pretty dreadful. According to some people, even in tis forum, Schumacher was not "that good". How can we describe Jenson Button then? Or even Hamilton? Poor old guys... A Schumacher comeback, even if he's 41, would only add some interest to this sport. Which has been, in the last few years, really really poor. And with very odd outcomes.
