Renault is considering a Renaultsport-badged Laguna, following an extension of its sporting brand to encompass GT models.

The old 203bhp GT, crept in to the price list with very little acknowledgement and to be fair it was only a mediocre car - unfortunately like the rest of the Laguna range.

If Renaultsport are going to produce such a car then the new model needs to be significantly better and much more in keeping with its other products.

This seems unlikely as Renault appearently decided to discontinue the Laguna as this one runs out, not to mention the torsion beam rear suspension, which might not cope with the challenge - even if they made a miracle with Megane RS.

They hardly reach to convince someone to buy a standard Laguna, who the hell is going to burn their money in such crap???

I just hear complains about the Vauxhall Insignia VXR, even some guys complain that in B-roads no one can profit from their M5, E63... and the likes, so, oh god! who they think they will caught with this?????

I bet the next ones will be the Logans Gordini, or the Logans RenaultSport GT, or...

Good Idea coolboy. They would sell like hot cakes in Eastern Europe. In fact, if they were good enough and cheap there may well be a market for them here.

Back in the 80s and 90s nearly all mid range saloons and hatches were topped off by a decent sporty version, some being much better than others. Today almost none are, and the likes of the VXR Insignia is far too expensive. If Renault can get this right it might prompt more makers to offer such things which would only be a good thing.

However the Laguna isnt a great place to start, but i wouldnt bet against it being a good drive if they make one, given what they have done with the Megan etc. And there is no doubt that the laguna could do with a 'halo' model.

I suspect the 250 BHP 2.0 turbo from the Megan could be quick enough to be entertaining even in a Laguna, but the thing that really makes a car good to drive is the suspension and stearing, and Renault appear pretty good at getting the best out of these with the Megan. So come on Renault, give it a go.

Completely pointless decision and a completely pointless car.

 I think they should just call it a day with the Laguna. It's never gonna sell in its current guise, however much they try and tweak it. They need a totally fresh concept for a mid range car cos the Laguna and its sales died years ago.To me the car looks about 8 yrs old and they already gave it a facelift not long back.
