    What is it?

The 911 Turbo has just undergone a major series of revisions, including the fitment of a brand new direct injection 3.8-litre flat six engine that produces 500bhp and 479lb ft of torque.

And, if anything, the cabrio has benefited more from these revisions than the fixed head, especially if you go for the optional Sports Chrono Pack, which brings superior engine mounts compared with the non-Sports Chrono version.

By its own admission, Porsche has put much...Read the full article

     aaahh Steve and Chas,

Are you aware that although many realized- car testers and drivers around the world, that the previous 997 Turbo- in both guises, was flawed- and indeed a worse on-limit handler than even the 996 Turbo?

I think your are aware of this. Yet no one ever at your publication (which as you write in your editorial makes your stomach ache thinking of potential wrong-headed editorial malfeasance) ever noted this fact?

Why did Autocar never just come out and say the 997 Turbo's were both (one obviously more than the other) flawed dynamically and indeed rather unpredictable to drive on-limit? Why were they never compared to their better 996 Turbo ancestors?

Indeed Chris Harris, Meaden and Bov all noted that the 996 TT version was better, when at DR.  Maybe they felt safer there to be honest.

I believe you guys are professionally and morally corrupt and guilty of being manipulated by Porsche to publish and not publish what suits Porsche. Thanks, JL

BTW heres an admission by DR(sic), Kacher from CAR this month about the Turbo:

"It’s amazing how clever fine-tuning can improve a car’s overall performance. The outgoing 911 Turbo was a highly competent piece of kit, but compared to the follow-up model it showed a few rough edges at the limit, like the relatively abrupt transition from late understeer to even later oversteer, which has now all but disappeared."

Herr Kacher is guilty as well as he decided to clear up some issues he had with the previous generation Turbo AFTER the NEW was launched. -- NOT of course before.  j

I love this new 911 turbo, it's just about the only perfect everyday supercar you can take to work and drive daily. I have always had a soft spot for 911s and this one just looks like a very complete car. With this much power and torque it would  be a dream to drive, whoever gets to own of these new is a very lucky.

The only problem I have with this car is the R8 V10, so one for the first time in Harrogate yesterday and it looks so much more imposing then the standard V8 R8. The 911 TURBO is a great car but the R8 is also a supercar that can be used everyday. No matter how good the turbo is i feel I would pick the R8 V10 just for looks.

but the turbo is one cool car

Those who criticize our generation forget who raised it. !

Since the dawn of time, most motoring hacks have:

    - eulogised and glorified every new 911, and
    - suddenly realised how flawed the last one was.

My own opinion from two-time ownership is that it's easily dismissed and too expensive, and the way the press are all over a new model while simultaneously badmouthing the previous one shows just how much of its greatness is in the mind of the bloke driving it.

Sir I appreciate your general agreement here; but this is something different all-together. Whats going on here with evo, Autocar and Car has been to say nothing about the 997 Turbo being better than the previous car. They just silenced the fact that they (most all) liked the (996 TT) older car better.

Indeed a much more subtle trick this time.  j
