Kia is planning to launch a sporty front-wheel-drive coupé within the next two years, according to a senior Korean source.

The Korean firm plans to have a car in every major sector within the next five years, and a sports coupé, which would be based on the Cee’d platform, is currently in the early stages of development.

“At the moment we’re concentrating on further establishing the brand as a serious player in the UK,” the source told Autocar, “but we’ve got ambitious plans for th...Read the full article

Shades of previous Astra at the front but overall a B+. Oh and is there actually any money in small coupes?

    Can't make up my mind

This Design is 5 Years old believe it or not.

Anyway, the Veloster will be based off the i20 Platform.  You know why, becuase its coming to the US as an Accent 3 door Hatch.  They will also have a 5 door Variant of the car, made to be a Mini Clubman Competitor.  It will take the upmarket small car feel of the i20 from the Gelz and take it up a Notch.  Instead of the US Car and Driver Magazine calling it a cheaper "almost as good as an Audi A1", I think the Accent will be as good as an Audi A1; as that is the benchmark.

That whole i30 platform stuff you guys recite is a serious error, by the way.  The Elantra/i30 Will get a Coupe, but it wont be the Veloster.  "The Veloster is Accent Sized." According to Hyundai North America CEO John Krafick.

    http://blogs.insideline.com/straightline/2009/07/il-exclusive-2012-hyundai-veloster-will-get-140-hp-and-direct-injection.html

It will replace both the Accent Traditional 3 door and the Tiburon.  Tiburon Power with Accent Segment Fuel Economy, and size is the key here.

The Elantra Coupe will be the Replacement for your Hyundai Coupe', and maybe the Elantra Coupe duke it our with your Focus RS.

Speaking about Accents these are some spyshots of the 2012 Accent Sedan, in heavy camo.  It will get the same 140 HP Direct injection engine as the Veloster=Accent 3 door.  Its expected to get 43-45 MPG, and it will have a Hybrid capable of over 50 MPG.  The range will also include a 1.6L Turbo Version getting 176 HP

I also have some Spy shots of the Next Gen Elantra/i30 sedan.  It looks more dynamic and all-emcompassing than the Current gen model.  It will have a Next Generation Beta-II 4 Liter with MPG at 40 and HP at 170+.

Dont Underestimate the Hyundai. Superior Korean Build Quality is of value to the: overpriced, overated, and over the hill Japanese. All Japan has left in the top 3 US Rankings in Quality is Lexus, and Hyundai is right on their tail.
