  • Dodge to be dropped in Europe

    Oct 07, 2009 2:53 AM

The Dodge brand is likely to be dropped from the Chrysler Group’s European line-up as part of partner Fiat’s new plans for the company, to be announced in mid-November.

Dodge was launched in Europe in 2006 but has failed to match Chrysler’s ambitions for it. Just under 4000 Dodges were sold in the UK in 2008.

At the same time, the Chrysler brand is to be moved upmarket. In its heyday in the US it was considered a more prestigious marque than Chevrolet and Ford.

    Will anyone notice? Or care?

It's not surprising really. Chrysler spread themselves far too thinly in the UK, with too many brands, too few dealers, and an incohesive line up. There should have been just Chrysler cars, and Jeep.

Then in another 12 months bin the Chrysler range and cease importing all the Jeep models except the classic Wrangler ( infact you can re-badge that as a FIAT) and then we should be about there I think.

Another automotive success story from the U.S.

No. Drop Chrysler, not Dodge. We lose the 300c (shame, but had its day now), but could have both the Challenger and Charger instead.

Lose the Sebring, but keep the Avenger. But please can we have some decent engines in the smaller cars. Fiat have plenty of decent ones available.

405 Le Mans, Monaro CV8, S2000, MKX 3.8. No more space.

I spent two weeks with a (albeit 4 door) charger in the states. Trust me you're missing nothing, slow, bouncy, heavy, poor brakes, really really really crap handling and a frankly rubbish auto box that wanted to kick down every 2 seconds.

Its one and only redeeming feature was that it looked cool.

The 300C is by far the better car, infact there isn't really any comparison.

Not surprising, afterall Morchionne wants Dodge to be the 'US Alfa'. But what will happen to Alfa's return to the US?

I'm fearing that the Chevy Camaro is not going here after all. All I have to go on that is that I enquired a week back as to when it's coming, and no one replied from Chevrolet UK. I would definitely be interested in buying one, and I fear that the recession may of put paid to RHD versions. Of course, it could just be that Chevrolet are simply acting like almost every other manufacturer and can't be bothered to reply to a potential customer. It never fails to amaze me how laid back car companies are to serious enquiries. I phoned my local Skoda dealer back in May and asked them to contact me as soon as they had a Yeti in. They have them there now, but I've never received a call. I've lost count over the years how many times that's happened.
