  • Budget Porsche is 'top priority'

Porsche has moved a step closer to producing its own version of the Volkswagen Bluesport concept, according to reports from Germany.

The VW Bluesport is a two-seater, mid-engined roadster, which is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine. VW launched it at the Detroit motor show earlier this as a sports car designed with current emissions and budget-sensitive times firmly in mind.

Wolfgang Duerheimer, head of development at Porsche, told a German magazine that creating a model “signif...Read the full article

I saw an old Porsche 914 the other day - it looked great.  I can't see that a budget sports car would do any harm to the brand (especially if they're planning on selling 150,000 cars a year, surely they're going to have to plaster the Porsche badge onto far less worthy cars to acheive that target?).

I'd have thought Porsche's priority would be to produce a car which doesn't look like a copy of the car that went before (911/Coxter) or was a complete munter (everything else).

When you look at models like the 924, it's not the first time Porsche have had a stab at an entryl-evel model. Providing Michael Mauer can create a classic Porsche design and an updated 356 would certainly do that and it would be just up to the engineers to get the power to weight ratio correct. When you think of a Twin Turbo Diesel or a Hybrid 2.0Ltr Turbo Motor, The luxury brand may be able to steal a few sales from other German premium brands including those Porsche 'wanna-be' Audi TT drivers.

Completely agree.  The Porsche design department (if there is one) must be THE most boring place on earth to work.  Or the funniest.

    Brand dilution here we come.

The 914/916 was always labelled as a VW/Porsche.  But yes, they are gorgeous little machines....very similar to the X1/9
