    Paul Smith, a respected campaigner against speed cameras and founder of safespeed.org.uk, died yesterday aged 52.
    Smith was well known for his belief that speed cameras reduced road safety, and that safe driving wasn't just about speed, but about improving road safety through measures such as better driver training.

     My condolences to Paul's family and friends.

    He will be remembered for having the courage to challenge state propaganda and standing up for his beliefs.

    Wishing Claire all success in continuing his good work.

    I had heard of Paul's work in the area of safe driving and his organisations pragmatic view towards speed camera's - my thoughts are with his family at this difficult time - I understand his partner Claire is going to pick up where Paul left off.

    His voice was a beacon of common sense in a forest of stupidity.
