  • Open-top Peugeot RCZ planned

    Sep 03, 2009 1:32 PM

Peugeot is contemplating building an open-top version of the new RCZ, to broaden its assault on the Audi TT.

The two-door RCZ is aimed squarely at the TT coupe, but the French firm is considering either a full convertible or a Porsche 911-style targa model to steal sales from the TT roadster, Autocar can reveal.

I hope I'm not the only one thinking that it looks absolutely hideous. I can't begin to imagine how much uglier a convertible version would be. Anyone?

Are Puegeot scared to be different?, oh, lets stick the corporate face on it give it a big fat derriere and claim it's going to challenge the TT !,what a load of bull dust, first, where's the performance? a weedy 1.6 or a deisel,if they want this car to sell find a 2.5 litre with whatever forced induction they like and then go back and see what can be used of the concepts we saw i while back.Sorry it's a 6/10 effort, must try harder.

i have no idea why they are so optimistic on their projected sales. maybe they know  there are a lot of peugeot loyal customers.

even if it has interesting looks, its not enough for the price they are asking.

I saw the show car last year. Its got presence. Pretty? No. not to my eyes, but if it drives OK, and is priced well i doubt they will have any difficulty shifting the numbers they are talking of. I really think we have to applaud anything different in this world of ever more simelar cars. And if Peugeot are serious about making cars that drive well again, and this is the start of it (thats what they tell us), then i hope it does well enough to encourage them. I miss the Peugeots of the 80's and 90's that looked good and drove well.

Yes, 200 bhp isnt that much these days, but it is enough to have some fun. Maybe there is more to come. A diesel hybrid! well its not my cup of tea, but it would be a first. Lets have more veriety, and not be scared of things that are different.

No I agree. It would be bad enough having to drive one without being any more visible so that people can point and say "look that 2@ bought that ugly car". Not for me thanks.

If you haven't driven a particular car don't say you have just to prove a point. It doesn't fool anybody and is bloody annoying.

Yes I have. I'm going to sign off now before Topkat comes on and I get banned!

     i dont understand the 0-60mph time of 7.6s, with 200bhp and 1275kgs

is the 1.6 engine really that bad, the gearing not great? maybe the wheels are too big and heavy for it to accelerate effiecently.

the vw sirocco can do the same time with 157bhp with a 1.4 engine... with the same weight (1271kgs)

the 200bhp sirocco does it in 7.0s with more weight than the peugeot .

    doesnt make sence.
