  • McLaren P11's suspension details

    Sep 02, 2009 2:25 AM

This McLaren P11 prototype spotted testing at the Nurburgring last week is believed to have been shaking down the new British supercar’s revolutionary suspension system, which insiders say features breakthrough technologies.

Although McLaren won’t yet give details of its new suspension, Autocar understands the set-up gives the P11 a new level of versatility, allowing all of the cornering body control needed by a 200mph ‘son of McLaren F1’, yet delivering unprecedented levels of ride comfo...Read the full article

Sounds interesting, but I hope the suspensions will not be directly derived from the torsion bar/push road set-up of the McLaren's Formula 1 racers.

If it does, the P11 is going to jump around like a nervous wreck on any road surfaces except mirror-smooth freeways.

    Can't wait.

"Initial estimates are that the car will weigh between 1300kg and 1400kg, making it at least 200kg lighter than most mid-engined rivals and on a par with the less powerful 911"

    Ferrari 430 Scuderia: 1250 kg

    Ferrari 458 Italia: 1380 kg

Lambo Gallardo 550 Balboni: 1380 kg

Which are these "mid-engined rivals" weighting 200kg more than the new Macca?? Don't see many others around...

So where are the “suspension details”? The article couldn’t have contained less information or been more ambiguous without a lot more effort. I think perhaps another variation of the Delphi magnetorheological damper will be used, hardly ground breaking, but we shall see.
