Managers at MG's Longbridge plant are understood to be considering plans to shut down car production lines until early 2010, according to the BBC.

With production of the special edition version of the MG TF is due to end in weeks, MG Motor UK Ltd said" "No final decision has been made regarding a temporary shutdown of our production facility".

Heard about the sad news. It's all over the internet. I still hope that the proud MG brand - UK made - will continue to live on. Perhaps coming up with something entirely new might infuse new life. Instead of focusing on survival by making cars from a manufacturer's standpoint, concentrate on what (future) personal mobility, car travel and touring will be all about... I have a suggestion that might mean a new lease on life... It's called the Space-Efficient Vehicle.

I'm surprised with the sales figures for MGs that they're still building up cars!   Although I must admit that I was surprised that they actually started building cars at all.

As I've said on other threads in the past, MGs are of a old design yet the car is a unknown.   You don't know how well it's rust protections etc will last because it's a new company that's producing them.

So the price of the car must be much lower than they're currently asking for to balance out the increased risk.

I dont think this news is a suprise to many here, the Chinees have not shown much serious intrest in the plant since they bought it. If it dose close down the people who should take responsability are the Labour government who have let this once proud manufacturing area down.
