  • Range Rover LRX's 2010 launch

The final production version of the Range Rover LRX could be unveiled on 17 June next year, according to Land Rover sources.

The premium compact SUV will finally be given the go-ahead for production by the end of the year, insiders have told Autocar. Production would probably begin in early 2011.

IMO it looks great on paper, I hope it looks as good in reality and that all the numbers stack up.  Here's hoping I can afford one and want one when available.

I'm sure LR will sell bucketloads of these hideous b**tard love children. Personally, i loathe them, despite having a soft roader for towing, a defender for off-roading, and a car for road work myself. I'm not sure why though. Perhaps it's because i'm annoyed that LR have all but deserted their core market, and are chasing what used to be known as yuppies. Or perhaps it is because LR's cynical marketing machine will give buyers the feeling that they are somehow buying into the lifestyle they crave, when in reality they are not. I guess i'd feel the same if my wife left me, and started wearing skin-tight red leather, and chasing boys. As with Burberry, i suspect it will end in tears.

I confidently predict that, despite Land Rover being a British company, the launch car in June 2010 will be left hand drive.  Does anyone want to bet me money on this?  Land Rover have a track record of doing that, and it annoys the hell out of me.  And how can you 'launch' in 2010 but not have any cars ready until 2011?  Land Rover will have serious competition by that date, and I think they've been dawdling for too long.  Nice car, but it will be a truly ridiculous price, just wait and see.

Not my cup of tea at all but why do all concept cars have oversize wheels and tiny windows? They may look good to some but they sure aint practical and those wheels would soon get curbed as you will be able to see bugger all out of those windows.

Fine for yummy mummies to show off on the school run though !

I'm sure this is street talk for something or other but Christ knows what it means.

I think Land Rover are dawdling with this. They might miss the market if they're not careful. I am truly looking forward to a new Land Rover model but am genuinely not sure if there's space for another 5 door off roader in their line up. Where does this leave the Freelander and, to a certain extent, the Discovery and RR Sport?

    Peace in our forum!

Yes, I'm sure that the dippy blonde I saw in Sainsbury's yesterday with her sprogs Merlin and Octavia (lol) would find it 'kinda, like, wow, awesome'.

And, sadly, when it arrives it will look nothing like this - as was the case with the Sport. Just add another component to an already crowded product line.

JLR - like every other business on this planet exists to make a profit - like it or loathe it the LRX has been designed, engineered and will be marketed to do that ...

That's kind of the point - JLR aren't making any money and the only component in that equation that is doing any kind of good business is Jaguar.

Making your product line too confusing and overlapping is never a good move historically regardless of the product you are selling.

Agreed - but that is mostly caused by the current economic situation around the world - nearly all manufacturing businesses are suffering in much the same way - but part of the solution is to create a new market for a new product and sell sell sell ! (see new MINI coupe concept in another news article for a further example - nobody needs a MINI coupe - but if it exists and it is well designed, engineered etc people will buy it)
