  • Lotus Evora

Ever since the Esprit disappeared from the price list in the mid-2000s, Lotus’s line-up has offered variations on a theme. From 2-Eleven to Europa, the basic ingredients have been the same: two seats, lightness, sublime handling and degrees of discomfort. Now, though, we have the Evora, an all-new model aimed at broadening the Lotus audience and with a greater emphasis on comfort and touring potential.

Lotus claims this is a car to be used every day – one, it believes, that rivals not...Read the full article

One wonders what your opinion would be if this car were Germaqn or Italian . How did its Euro Ncaap testing go ? Or was it exempted due to its limited production numbers ? Its much easier keeping a car light if it can avoid crash testing.

No stability control, crap gearbox and an interior that in your shot looks like it is already falling apart (check out the passenger seat trim) - it smacks of something rushed into production. But the biggest drawback is the price. At 60k you would really have to be a dyed-in-the-wool patriot to even consider it.

I'm just a dumb reader, but its quite clear to me that the Evora you tested has Forged Wheels, Painted Door Handles, it looks like extended leather, and the text suggests it has Sat Nav, so how does it get a price "As Tested" of £49K ? May I suggest the Editor spends a little more time "editing" and a little less on jollies ?

63k... 1395 kg... Toyota engine (3,5 liter and only 276 bhp)... dubious build quality. How about NCAP test?

It doesn't look like "an everyday car" to my eyes.

I understand this is a enthusiasts' mag, but we should take into account other aspects too. As a former Mk1 Elise owner, have to say that Lotus products are fantastic toys, but not proper cars.

and what's with the Lotus styling these days? it's hardly what you could call pretty - however generous you were feeling. Too little panache, too much Proton sadly.

3 unforgivable things in any car, especially a sports car - offset pedals, poor gear change, reflections in dials.

Is it safe? Why no mention of this? Does it need to comply with all EU Regs? Will it be NCAP tested?

I don't see the stitching problems with the seats someone mentioned.

i think they were confused by the vent in the black material in the lumbar area which granted, does look like it's falling off at first glance but an identical vent is also visible on the drivers seat.

I think it looks great and seems to have the dynamic and conceptual ability to be an everyday car.

Quality issues?  Maybe, I'll wait for the spider and by then the gremlins will be sorted out.

(never buy a car in the 1st year of production run)

The Evora is about 5 grand more than the Cayman which is a much better car and well proven and better looking

Nikonboy I have to ask, are you and Topprat one and the same person?

If you haven't driven a particular car don't say you have just to prove a point. It doesn't fool anybody and is bloody annoying.
