  • Radical sets Nurburgring record

    Aug 20, 2009 11:00 AM

Radical has claimed the Nurburgring production car lap record with a time of 6m 48s.

Dutch driver Michael Vergers posted the previous lap record of 6m56s in 2005 and was again behind the wheel.

He was driving the new SR8LM just 24 hours after it was driven from England to Germany for the record.

Conditions were perfect with clear skies and temperatures in the high 20s. After a few laps Vergers found the right set-up.

I don't think there is an "official" record. Don't all these companies use their own timing gear for these stunts?

anyone know why no one has tried to beat the fastest lap made in 1984? its tragic that records are old they should only be a few years old at least as it shows evolution progress.

a free tune le mans car should be easily able to beat it, say with 1000bhp or so.

    Firstly well done Radical!

Regarding the outright lap, its was a real shame that "Quick" Nick Heidfeld wasn't allowed to open up the BMW Sauber F1 car the other year.  That would have been some lap, maybe one day they will let an F1 car really go for it, even at nine tenths it would smash the record.

...is taking Eau Rouge flat this weekeend...

Well done Radical! The reason that the official lap record appears now to be so old is that it has to be set in race conditions - and the last time sports cars went there was (from memory) back in '84. In my opinion... Would an F1 car beat the time? I doubt it... for starters it would need to be raised up on ride height - losing valuable downforce, which of course will mean it'd be slow through the corners - and there aren't sufficient straight sections to make the time back.
