  • Porsche 911 GT3 RS launched

    Aug 19, 2009 3:21 AM

This is what Porsche is calling “the most sporting 911 yet”: the new GT3 RS.

The homologation special is fitted with the same 3.8-litre flat six as the GT3, but it has 444bhp instead of 429bhp, making it 35bhp pokier than the old RS.

The latest GT3 RS gets wider tracks at the front and rear (aided by extended front wheel arches) and a huge carbon...Read the full article

i have been waiting ages for cars to come with li-ion batteries instead of lead acid to start the car and run its electrics. hopefully the transition to all cars down to the city car will only take a year or so. it really does cut weight down.

With all those graphics slapped down the side and the red wheels and trim, the subtlety of the previous GT's have been lost.  It looks less like a Porsche and more like a RenaultSport Megane.

That said, I'd still have one.

    It's all about the twisties....

Somehow I dont think Renault made a Megane with rear engine or with Porsche bodywork.  Guess I'll have to have a closer look at the Meganes again

Keep the decals but with subtle colours. Like 911 turbos of old.

Would you really? The MkI 997 RS was my favourite car, until the MkII GT3 was released. As you said the subtle looks have been lost, and right now I would be very happy with the standard GT3. Still a fantastic car, and to get those figures from a N/A 6 cylinder engine is mighty impressive.
Alex - The Impreza has gone. Long live the Fiesta!

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and taste is something that varies from individual to individual. I simply cannot imagine how anyone driving that car, as technically awesome as it is, would feel anything other than a complete berk.

I thought the same thing. It's arguably Porsche's best car and then they spoil it by making it look cheap. The previous generation, even in orange or green with the black decals I could just about stand, but not this. It looks aweful.

If you haven't driven a particular car don't say you have just to prove a point. It doesn't fool anybody and is bloody annoying.

    Decals aside…

    More horsepower-check

    Large pendulum can-check

Even larger tires to keep large pendulum can in control-check

    Same as it ever was.

    Oh yeah, new battery-yawn

    What excites you then?

    What car do you drive?

You either need Prozac or you should pop over to the Greenpeace forum!

Audi R8/R10, Cayman (if it wasn’t being held back), Miata (too small for me though), Ariel Atom, ZR1, Astons, 50s-60’s Jags, Ferraris, Cobras, C2/C6 series Vettes...

    C6 Corvette with Z51 package.

Why, because I am not caught up in the mythology that is the 911?
