    Viper to get Ferrari V10

    Um, no!

Correct headline would be "Viper might possibly get Ferrari-derived V10, but highly unlikely".

Unless the whole ethos of the Viper is changed to the extent that it is no longer a Viper, a high-revving ~5 litre DOHC engine will not take the place of the current lump of torque.

It's a sensible move to keep developing the Viper considering the status it currently enjoys.

If they do decide to go down the Ferrari engine route, I would hope that they engineer the rest of the car to be a little less agricultural than the current model, the biggest flaw in its performance in my opinion.

    It's all about the twisties....

That tractor is currently the fastest door slammer around the ring @ 7:22. Yeah I know …the interior sucks.

7:22 - they could cut a good few seconds of that if the gear shift was a bit more user friendly! ;-))

It's greatest asset is that it's not a sophisticated Euro supercar, IMO.

I agree, if they just work some Italian magic on the interior and maybe some small design changes on the exterior they would have it. If they are going to keep the Viper, let it remain a Viper.

Precisely, couldn’t have said it better.

Wouldn't this double the price and quadrouple the servicing?  Anyway, I thought Americans liked torque, not talk...

Good point Paul J, do they plan on selling this car in Europe? If they go meddling with the engine what are the hardcore Viper fans/customers going to think? They better do a little consumer research before jumping into the pool head first.

No Fiat has a 20% stake in Chrysler ! . Autocar if you started with getting the small facts right then this story may gain some credit.

    Autocar:
The next-generation Dodge Viper is set to be powered by a Ferrari V10 engine.

The story should have read, the next generation Dodge Viper "MAY" be powered by a ferrari V10 engine.. some how i can not see Fiat Auto placing a Ferrari engine or any other bits in a dodge viper as this would downmarket future Ferrari cars.Masserati and Alfa are raiding the Ferrari parts bin at the momert Dodge doing the same, you lose the panache of the Ferrari brand.
