  • New Mazda CX-7 launched

    Aug 12, 2009 10:53 AM

Mazda has confirmed it will launch a facelifted CX-7 at the Frankfurt motor show next month.

The new model ditches the fast but thirsty 2.3-litre petrol engine in favour of a more frugal 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine. The Euro 5-compliant unit helps improve the CX-7’s CO2 emissions and fuel consumption, although Mazda hasn’t released any official figures.

My father drives a CX-7 and I can confirm it's really thirsty. Apart from that, it's a very pleasant car to drive, but I suspect the diesel will suit the Mazda better, despite inferior on-paper performance. But in terms of styling, it's a step backward for me - instead of sticking with its clean, understated lines, they came up with this blinged up new look. The steering wheel is worse too.

This car has been gagging for a diesel engine since its launch.  It deserves to do well now, because as an all rounder, this is a very likable car.

    It's all about the twisties....

I think this car is quite good. The Mazda does look the part. It does seem that it will sell quite easily too. I would like to find a little more about the car though.

Pricing is all. 170bhp and 0-60 in 11.5 means it will have to be waaaaay less than X1 @ £24k or so. I don't think it will be....shame.....
