  • Bentley Arnage replacement spied

    Jul 31, 2009 8:19 AM

These are the clearest shots yet of Bentley’s imposing Arnage replacement, which will be unveiled at next month’s Pebble Beach concours in California.

The huge round headlights are easily visible through the disguise and at the back there are lamps similar to the Continental.

Bentley had previously been expected to be going for an evolution of the Conti and Flying Spur’s streamlined styling, but it is likely to go with a far more classic shape.

What the hell is a "most solid car"?

Only this week the UK media was reporting that the winner of the "least solid car" award was an Audi A5:

German giant's Vorsprung durch Technik just
isn't what it used to be

    The Scotsman, 24 July 2009

The same reliability survey from last year put four VAG products in the bottom ten, so I'd wager that the only dinosaurs here are the ones still suckered by marketing flim-flam and still prepared to pay over the odds for faults and breakdowns in the name of badge vanity.

I await the usual gaggle of idiots claiming that survey numbers are wrong or meaningless. For the third year running...

For gawd sake don't get Thwarted started on VW/Audi's reliability and solidity record. He's become the VW's Ralph Nader..... (only pulling your leg, Thwarted). :-)

I could write a book, "Unsafe though nice seats" :^)

The only reason I bang on about it is because, like almost all British rags, Autocar have never once raised concerns about the dependability of the German cars they review, and this despite German cars being among the very least reliable on the market.

All we hear is the usual glib remarks about build-quality-this and superbly-finished-that - even though you'd expect an extra 0.75mm of nicely finished plastics when the car in question has a 33% fatter price tag and £5K hosed on the options list - but no mention of evidence from their own publisher suggesting it's all going to let you down?

Can you imagine the road test of a Land Rover or a Peugeot without at least three sniggering references to breakdowns? All I'm saying is, there are other cars more deserving of criticism. Find me a review of the A5 that even hints that it is the least reliable car in the country!

Sorry, I have to agree and that's not just because of my recent experiences.

There is a definite issue with German vehicle reliability and it does always seem to get overlooked.  Unfortunately, this makes for boring reading so it rarely gets the column inches it deserves in Autocar.

    It's all about the twisties....
