  • Jost Capito: the full interview

    Jul 28, 2009 7:26 PM

Jost Capito, 50, moved from Europe to Dearborn in January to head up a new division that will create high-performance road cars from Ford’s new global range of cars. Capito is best known for fathering the Focus RS, but he has also run Ford’s European motorsport operation, and before joining Ford he ran Sauber F1.      For starters, I hope Jost Capito gets responses posted about his interview. I find it a huge let-down that we in the US must CONTINUE to miss out on the RS. The part of this that irks me the most, is that Ford HAD to have been planing the "global cars" merger during the developement of the new RS, meaning during the development, they could have easily accounted for USA compatability. The C1 platform is the volvo s40 and c30 here in the USA, so I dont fully understand how the RS cannot be brought here. As a now 7yr focus owner myself (first an "s2" edition, and now an SVT), I and many other focus/ford enthusiasts have been screaming for an RS here in the states. It was understandable with the mk1 because it would not pass crash tests here in the states, but in developement of the mk2 on the c1 platform, It seems we were rudely ignored after all the positive chatter about how awesome an RS would be here. I truly wish ford would greatly reconsider not bringing us the RS here, or at the very least make a fiesta RS for us here that performs just as well on a track. Europe gets all the good stuff and its not fair!
