Fiat is working on a hot Abarth version of the new 500 convertible, Autocar can reveal.

The car would go head to head with the Mini Cooper cabrio, and although it is unlikely to significantly undercut the British-built car on price, the Fiat would offer more power and extra equipment for the money.

Competition - and loss of sales - even though its all owned by the same group fiat would much rather sell cars with the word fiat on it. I'm sure most people would rather have a mito gta than a 500 abarth - it is a difficult one though!

I think this is part of the reason, I think is down to staged release and that constant build up; it runs a risk of one over taking the other as it were......the Mito GTA is a 100% going to happen (I could be totally wrong...but I am 100% sure i am not!)......I am 100% the GPA will be launched....totally 100%!!

For this...I agree with you the 500C Abarth (both) will be fantastic...and that SS will indeed be a riot!!!!!

 

I don't think it will have more power than the Mini as all the 500s I have driven are lumpy unpleasant things to drive and feel like they should be 50% cheaper than the Minis!

Fiat is also planning on selling the 500 in North America so I guess they are prepping all variants ready for sale there.

I also hope that there will be a Mito GTA (there must be), but right now I bet the Fiat group is working hard on a NA entry and merger with Chrysler.

all the 500s you have driven being how many exactly?

 

i have a brand new one and its great to drive- now, this being purely subjective, i have driven a mini many times and that was far more lumpy and unpleasant.

and, by way of a bonus, most 500s are half as much as minis anyway, which are fantastically overpriced. 500s are also blessed with great quality, whereas minis can rattle like they belong in a cot.

so i guess you should just get a mini and stay out of the 500- join the herd.
