  • Mini First launched

    Jul 17, 2009 2:57 PM

This is the new Mini First, a budget model that starts from £10,950.

The Mini First has been introduced to take advantage of the UK’s scrappage scheme. An equivalent car has boosted sales in Germany, with up to a third of all German Mini sales as a direct result of the local scrappage scheme.

The Mini First is powered by the 74bhp 1.4-litre petrol engine with 89lb ft of torque that is also found in the Mini One, which starts from £12,460.

So what's the difference between a basic, no options Mini First and a basic, no options Mini One??

My thoughts exactly. Not many answers here, making it more like an advert than article. Seems like good value, if you can do without whatever it is they have not included - which is usually not the case.

It looks to have lost about 15bhp, A/C, the boost radio pack, gained some halfords wheel covers and tin cans for in car entertainemnt, this motor has been for sale in other markets for a while.

There is also a Mini OneD coming out with the same tuned diesel 1.6 as in the 207 99g and the Fiesta Econetic, but in the Mini it is 104CO2, which seems unfortunatly close to the 100CO2 tax break.

Still seems around £1000 too expensive, but its a step in the right direction.

As much as I am not a fan of the car, it is at least built in the UK, so any increase in sales has to be a good thing.

    It's all about the twisties....

Could it be,that the Mini First is all about the Fiat 500  taking a lot of sales off them.?

Mind, the Mini First is still overpriced.

The Mini One has got a more powerful engine, same size just more power!

the Mini One, which starts from £12,460.

HOW MUCH!?! Its supposed to be the budget basic model.

This new car is simply a marketing exercise to grab headlines. No MINI leaves the factory in standard spec so by the time the buyer has added the essentials back on - like a decent stereo, A/C, Metallic paint and Alloys - the price will beat least another £2000 anyway.

Im really really bored of MINI. Come on BMW, the joke is over now. You're not fooling anyone.

I am not just saying this....but the Fiat 500 is way cooler......it is so much cooler.....the mini is not in the same league; I love the Fiat 500.......

....the mini at that price is still over priced.....it should be (as has been commented by TegR) £1000 less....base 500 is £9.7K

As per Dr.Car......re. BM not having grasped the idea of budget...trouble is now they have stuck it on the line......or well.....

its strange, when the 500 and mini first came out the mini won the overall battle.....you would say this time around the 500 looks like it is going to win.....BM just got it wrong.....I am even more sure now......I think BM are going to sell Mini.....

Seems like a sensible addition to the range. Ok you will need to spec it up a little and it's a little slow for my tastes, but running costs are superb, it will be fun to drive, and its not much more expensive than an equivalent Fiesta 3dr and depreciation will be slower with the Mini.

The styling isn't to everyone's taste, but it's still a very good car.

The Fiesta is way better....the Fiesta is way cooler than the Mini now.....especially at this price range, its better inside, more modern, I think it is biggesr inside also and I think you get more kit with it.....face it, Mini is over.....its just a car now and all the competition got better and over took it......BM as we discussed on anther thread gave it no where to go.

BM messed it up..big time.....in light of that the budget car should be £1K less......but its not....they should have reduced it right down.....

    ......Mini is now naff......proper naff.....

...as said, I really convinced BM will sell Mini off....I do not see they have a choice...
