  • Super-frugal Citroen C6 planned

A super-eco concept version of the Citroen C6 is poised to get the green light from the French carmaker.

Sources say that the big executive car will be fitted with PSA’s new hybrid drivetrain and a host of aerodynamic tweaks, which will combine to bring its Co2 output down to as little a 100g/km.

Achieving such low Co2 levels in an executive car would propel Citroen ahead of its German and Japanese rivals.

     Go for it Citroen!

This could be the USP that this big car needs to help sales.

Add it to the C5 and you have a winner there too.

So an electric motor will replace the C6 rear suspension eh? Now that would work wonders for Citroen's ride comfort.....

YES!!!!!  Bizzare that something so old can still seem so modern!!!  Cant wait to see it and more wonderfully odd and aero Citroens!!

Quote / A new set-up consisting of a single electric motor, which drives the rear wheels, will replace the C6’s rear suspension. Room will also have to be found at the rear for the electronic control systems and a small battery pack./ Unquote

Therefore the new C6 CX will have no rear suspension??

A C6 capable of anything under 150g/km would indeed be a vast improvement especially bearing in mind that the current car weighs around 1.8 tonnes.

I love the C6 design and hope this is something they will leave unmolested.

Let's hope PSA makes as much progress with their robotized manual gearbox.

This sounds very impressive, and for a car as good looking as the C6 to have cutting edge technology too would be great. I guess the cost is most easily absorbed into the already high price of big cars so it might actually sell.

All of PSA's hybrid show cars have used their robotised manual. Anyone got any idea why? With the electric motor powering the rear wheels i cant see why it would matter if you had a prpoer manual, or a proper auto up front (surely both more desirable than the automated manual depending on the car it is fitted to).

I am 100% Merc....but I think what Citroen is planning is excellent......it is one right in the eye (or tail pipe) for Toyota.........it will really hit Toyota hard and that I like.

It goes to show all the fuss about Toyota.......Citroen poll up with a car that near equals the Prius yet the car is loads bigger and better to look at and will be nicer to drive......size wise it hammers the Toyota.......and Toyota reckon they are good....rubbish!

The hybrid systems are much better on these sizes of car, the small cars then can be either super frugal/small engine low emission units or just electric.

......who said Toyota got it right/were any good.......I didn't!!!

    Hmmmm.

The Prius isn't the only Toyota hybrid, you know. LS, GX and RX also have hybrid drivetrains.

The proposed C6 hybrid is is a diesel.

The proposed C6 hybrid is a completely different size class to the Prius, so what you mean by "size wise it hammers the Toyota", I really don't know.

The proposed C6 hybrid will, due to it's size and class difference, cost probably double that of the Prius.

So, apart from the C6 being a) not in production, b) a diesel, c) a much larger car, d) most likely a much heavier car, e) a more expensive car and f) a more exclusive car, comparisons to the Prius are valid.

Hello no. 2 Gump....(Dan M)...: I realise the gump family are not the sharpest so......

    1) it is bigger.....you are right and hence to get close to the g/km of the Pruis which is smaller is even more impressive; that is the thing we are looking at in terms of the technology.

    2) as you have pointed out the car will be most likely more expensive than the Prius, but it always was....therefore you would have to look and see at what price increase the hybrid has over its conventional unit.

    3) Auris (say) at base is £13.6K with Prius being £18.39K base....giving approx £4.7K difference and apporx. 35% of £13.6K

    4) Citreon reckon (taking the 3008 as a benchmark) that the system they have adds approx. 15% to the cost of the car.....thus taking item 1 I referenced above and this shows even more just how good Citreon is and how rubbish Toyota is.

    5) I did know Toyota owns Lexus etc.....I do not see your point unless you are telling me that the GS is a match with its 185g/km CO2 compared to the Citreon (expected) 100g/km CO2......now considering Lexus is the Toyota premium brand.....you would have been silly to bring them up as Citreon beats them hands down......

    6) as said Citreon superb....Toyota (and especially Lexus....)..smegging rubbish.

I realise you suffer with anything more sophisticated than yourself and thus I hope the above assists you....as said Citreon most superbly excellent......to Toyota who are quite clearly technology mingers

Plus Citreon had 15% of conventional and Toyota had 36% of convention....thus Citreon not only smashed Toyota technology usage performance....they did it in manufacturing performance also......and that is truly excellent design...not only beat your competition on ability but also beat them on price......Toyota are (as said) technology MINGERs

ok, Citroen, i'm surprised your spending more money on the big C6, surely as its sales have been woeful you should cut your losses & run away from the luxury segment??

C6 sales have been slow in the UK but what aboit France? I don't know what the sales figures are but I seem to see quite a few whenever I go there. I'm sure Citroen only ever expected for it to sell in small numbers. I saw one on the M1 today and was reminded of what a beauty it is.

I suspect the technology is being developed for the longer term and is just being debuted on the C6.

If you haven't driven a particular car don't say you have just to prove a point. It doesn't fool anybody and is bloody annoying.
