  • Full details: Alfa Romeo Giulia

    Jul 15, 2009 8:10 AM

The Alfa Romeo 159 will be replaced with an all-new model called the Giulia within the next two years.

The Giuila, which can be seen in our conceptual illustration, will be based on a new platform developed by Fiat Auto to maximise the investment in its C-platform which underpins the Bravo.

I dont really like the way Alfa is going with their styling. The MiTo was okay but the Milano is well... almost ugly. I hope this car doesnt end up the same way.

I love the styling!....I think Alfa are doing a fantastic job and if this new car comes out anything like this.....superb!!

As for rear wheel drive.......the option is clear and its better.....you can have front wheel drive or all wheel drive, which makes total sense; if you are going into the high performance models (which will most likely be the case)....I would much rather have all wheel drive than rear wheel drive...any day of the week.

Well done Alfa.....the boundaries in terms of design are really pushing on!!....as said the next ten/fifteen years in the automative sector will be legend.

Usual predictable reply about rear wheel drive..... They have, it's the 8C

I agree with North, Alfa are doing a great job with the new models

After the fugly Mito and disappointing Milano I'm starting to worry that they are going to ruin the 159 as well. Less weight yes, a continuation of the recent disappointing styling, no.

I might have to get a 159 before they replace it just to prove to people that Alfa used to make beautiful cars.

If you haven't driven a particular car don't say you have just to prove a point. It doesn't fool anybody and is bloody annoying.

Too many artists impressions end up with disappointing finished results, please don`t make this another.

Why are people getting so wound up about the styling?

The picture shown is a rendering and is only a guide as to what it could look like.  As we all know it may look something like the picture shown, but not close enough to worry about.

I await my comments until I see a proper picture of it.

    It's all about the twisties....

This article doesn't really tell us anything new does it? I'm not convinced by that 'artists impression' either.

I don't know why people are already bashing the Milano, nor the Giulia for that matter. The former hasn't even been shown officially yet! I don't think there is anything wrong with the styling of either the Milano or the MiTo . I think they both look as good as anything else in their respective classes. Better than many in fact. I'd take a MiTo over a MINI any day of the week. I am expecting the Milano to be a stunner in the metal, regardless of how it might appear in the development mule spyshots and the more recent factory shots.

The Giulia will be offered with front or four wheel drive. Why is there always this thing about RWD whenever Alfa is mentioned? i know purists would go mad for a rear driver, but Alfa Romeo do not need to offer a rear drive platform for this model, surely. I certainly wouldn't demand one. Maybe for the 166 replacement it would be nice yes, but BMW & Mercedes build plenty of rear wheel sedans for those who want one, if thats their motoring holy grail. Audi do not build rear drive sedans, and I don't see their brand faltering as a result. As with many other folks, the lack of RWD wouldn't deter me. Of the non-Alfisti, the majority of consumers are probably not car enthusiasts and likely wouldn't know the difference anyway.

I have every confidence that the company who brought us the achingly pretty 156 and the purposeful and elegant 159 will execute the successor perfectly. The Giulia is going to have all of the design purity, simple but beautiful detailing and elegance that we have come to know and love from Alfa saloons. The Giulia will not be an ugly car. Nor will it look like a MiTo with a boot. It may share some design cues with its siblings, but I think we can rest assured that it will be a real beauty.

I hope that you are right but I have my doubts.

I have no doubts at all and can't understand why you can have doubts based on renderings or grainy spy shots of other models
