  • Tata Nano passes crash tests

    Jul 14, 2009 12:54 PM

The Tata Nano has passed current European front and side impact standard crash tests.

The £1800 economy car was subjected to tests at the MIRA test centre last week under the supervision of an inspector from Britain’s Vehicle Certification Authority.

Let's hope they make the EU TATA here in the UK and then (as I said ages ago) they can consolidate the JLR factories and design HQ onto one campus i.e. the EU NANA and the other family car TATA has can then be made at JLR site that would end JLR production from the campus formulation......that site could convert to be the EU TATA manufacturing base.

Other manufacturers take note, see you can make a car which complies with European crash tests with out it being bloated, oversized and fat!

    Well done Tata.

    It's all about the twisties....

    Seconded. Very impressive.

If you haven't driven a particular car don't say you have just to prove a point. It doesn't fool anybody and is bloody annoying.

This looks to be a very practical and safe car, but is it a bridge too far? Not passing judgment but is this a case of that hat looks good on you but I could never wear one? How many here on the forum could envision themselves using this as their sole transportation? Again, I am not making any judgment of the utility value, just curious about the market for this car.

So when will we get the full euroncap test score for the car? Can we at least know if it is a 3, 4 or 5 star result?

    congratulations!

    very well done!

This is another milestone. This car, the Tata Nano is the one that has also deep inside it the genes, the blood and character of the Ford model T, Volkswagen Typ 1, Austin Mini and few others...

Because it is an engineering piece.

I feel sick and tired by this nonsense that my car is better than yours, because it got five, six, seven, on hundred, one million stars in the nonsense crash test, but also has shoulder airbag, ceiling cupholder, video entertainement system... all fundamental gadjets; fuel in the tank, seats or steering wheel, ah, no need, just useless accessories...

no, this car is a masterpiece, I do not understand those folks that say that  the IQ it`s the best thing that could come after the sun...

Come one, Toyota, just do a Nano-like and stop the nonsenses, even we allow you to sell it pricy...well, like for the price of two Tata Nanos.

Yes, what were the scores? And how does it compare to the Japanese competition?

Congratulations to TATA, that's quite some achievement. It will be interesting to see the European version in due course, but I bet it won't cost anywhere near the £1800 quoted, or even double that. I'd definitely consider one of these as a "local use" car and have something a bit more fun for longer journeys or weekends.

I think they said the EU car was going to be about £4.5K which is not that cost effective; I could be totally wrong and if anyone knows please do share.

I think that the other thing will be that they could really do with the maximum rating and the emissions will be an issue; I think also the styling could cause issue.....and from memory they said they would place better fabrics on the interior etc.

Vid-there is a video of one of the Autocar people driving it I think somewhere on the site and I think in there it states an EU price....could be wrong in the latter point...but I sure there has been some reference in this site previously.

But as has been said, lets not forget that the car was £1.8K.....and as the person said for Toyota to claim innovation at the thick end of £10K when this is £1.8K.....and the NANO can fit (properly) four adults...its a superb acheivement!!......it does show Toyota up....totally.....well done TATA.
