  • Porsche Panamera's 'Ring record

    Jul 13, 2009 10:31 AM

The Porsche Panamera Turbo has set a new Nurburgring record as the fastest four-door production car.

Porsche’s test driver completed the 12.9 mile circuit in Germany’s Eifel Mountains in a time of seven minutes 56 seconds.

The time was three seconds faster than the previous best time for a four-door production car, which was set by a Cadillac CTS-V last year.

And you would know just how ugly that was. But seriously I didn't like the shape at first but I think it'll grow on you

Bet Nissan are now wishing they did a four door version of the GT-R, in the same way as they used to do a four door Skyline.

Joking aside, it isn't that significant advantage over the Cadillac.  Bearing in mind how "crude" that is compared to the sophisticate Panamera, you would have thought it could have opened up more of an advantage.

That or the Caddy is better than we've all been giving it credit for.

    It's all about the twisties....

Is it really relevant how quickly a luxo limo can go around the Nurburgring???

TegTypeR...well said....you would say that the Cadi did a superb job.....also when you consider the price differential!.....what's that about £20K for each extra second.

You could probably buy a Cadi and then spend £20K on it and beat the Panamera....saving £45K......!! Good on Cadi....GM are going to go from strength to strength!!!.....

As for if this actually matters i.e. the track time....not really...its not exactly "real world" but it does show via what TegTypeR referenced....the gap between Porsche and Cadi is not that great for the extra £65K........for a car that costs £30K it goes to show how good it is....so its not "as higher interior standard".....but hell.....its £65K less, if Cadi charged £5K more and used better plastics, or £10K more and added some more tuning etc.....its dam impressive on Cadis part...i bet Porsche are gutted!!

I am working on the assumption the Cadi is about £30K in the UK? (please correct if wrong).......

The Cadi costs around £50,000 in the UK.

Stotty; thanks fella!.....it is still a massive saving!.....£45K.....so £15K per second!!....it still shows the Cadi to be superb value!...well done GM!!....

Yeah, we don't see much of the CTS-V in the press. I would probably have one over an XFR.

It's an interesting choice... 6.2l V8, 550bhp, 550lbft. Left hand drive only though.

    Not interesting.
I thought that it was a record of consumption of the Panamera TDI.
Porsche is enviable cars for their consumption.
Porsche, that must be Diesel. Above all, when we buy Porsche, it is for it consumption, not for the chronometer!

The new Jag XJ makes this ugly car redundant. I bet it's as fast too.
