Certainly looks an imposing machine - not unlike the current S Class in it's 'stature'.

Has anyone noticed a hint of the last Sunbeam Rapier (Holbay 120?) in it's rear three quarter view ?........a car that I lusted after inmy youth.......!!!!

I was intrigued by the new styling when I saw the launch video and pictures, now we see it on the road and...and...no. They're trying too hard, it could be a Korean grasp at a Jaguar style big car. It just doesn't look like a manufacturer comfortable in its own skin, which is a tragedy given how wide open the goal is; Mercedes and BMW have forgotten how to design, and Audi never knew what dampers do. That interior is a work of art though.

    attention to detail Jag:

either there's a fault with the lefthand rear brake light or they're driving a US-spec model on British plates, illegally. neat.

autocar may as well change their URL to www.jaguar.com. A bit of impartiality please.

On the XJ itself, I think they have successfully modernised and moved away from tweed jacket G&T golf club image. (as they did with the XF). Can't help thinking the rear looks like a Bentley or a big Korean car.

Would I ever buy one of these or an XF ? No, not my cup of tea at all and I'm now unfortunately becoming their target market.

I hope this is a pre production model, the panel gaps are huge, and would look out of place on a modern supermini, never mind an executive car.

The more and more I see pictures of this car, it continues to grow on me - actually think it looks quite good out on the road

I thought there was a brake light out at first, but it's the indicators incorporated with the brake lights. I can see it confusing other motorists.

Apart from that i like the car.

Except for the stupid looking black plastic covers on the rear pillars, it is a good looking car, but those plastic covers seriously mess up the side view of the car, what a shame. If I could ever afford one, first thing I would do is get them body colored. Or buy the thing in black, too bad they don´t have one driving in black around.

I hate where the front mould of bumper and grill joins with the bonet.  That shuntline visually shortens the bonnet and make the front look blocky and large nosed as oposed to streamlined and feline.

Dark colours are the way forward for this *** cat.

Am afraid it is overstyled to justify the stylists existance, also the bonnet shutline so near the crease on the top of the wing looks awkward, maybe they would have been better copying this detail from the first Ka?

When will they manufacture a car again which justifys the term sleek? Saw a silver CX2000 yesterday, it still looked amazing, when the chinese knock off that design with a blueprint the european industry will have had it.

Lexus SC430 rear lights and chrome detailing on the C-pillar looks out of place. Should have kept it similar to the XF.
